When should I hire a health and safety or environmental management consultant?
Hiring a health and safety or environmental management consultant is useful in a number of scenarios. It provides your organisation with outside eyes who can evaluate your existing systems and processes with the benefit of their high-level expertise and experience.
There can be a number of reasons to do this, for example:
- Changes to legislation - provide advice on how your organisation can remain compliant with the changes, and the implications on your HSE processes.
- Company experienced a serious incident or near miss - these can be difficult for internal officers to manage, so bringing in an impartial 3rd party expert can be advised to make sure nothing is missed, and that an honest recommendation can be made for improvements.
- Implementing ISO management systems - if your organisation is looking to obtain ISO standards accreditation (e.g. ISO 9001 for quality, ISO 45001 for H&S, ISO 14001 for environmental management), this may be outside of your in-house HSE teams.
