GLOBAL ECOMMERCE AND LOGISTICS COMPANY

Helping a leading global eCommerce company embed environmental awareness across multiple cohorts

RRC worked with a world-leading eCommerce and logistics company to develop a novel delivery schedule for the NEBOSH Environmental Diploma to support their ongoing commitment to employee development without impacting productivity.

A global leader in E-commerce and logistics operating across dozens of UK sites with thousands of employees, faced a significant capability challenge.

With ambitious net-zero targets and increasingly stringent environmental regulations, the business needed to upskill its operational management tier in formal environmental risk management.

However, the traditional “block- releasing” training model simply would not work for their fast pasted, 24/7 hour operation. Regional managers were scattered across the country, shift patterns were complex and taking weeks away for the floor was not an option.

The Challenge: Scale, distribution and time constraints

The client’s training requirements included:

  • Geographic Spread: Learners based across the UK.
  • Time Pressures: Operational managers could not be released from duties for extended residential courses.
  • Complex exam logistics: Each delegate requires a different in-person examination centre, making administration a significant operational hurdle.
  • Real world relevance: While the NEBOSH Environmental Diploma syllabus is academically rigorous, it needed to be deeply contextualised for logistics, warehousing and transport operations so that learning can be translated directly into daily practice.

The Client’s objective was clear: they did not simply want delegates to pass an exam. They wanted to ingrain genuine environmental risk awareness and competent decision-making across their entire operational management structure.

Understanding the business at every level

RRC’s development team began with an intensive discovery phase spending several weeks interviewing HSE directors, frontline supervisors and shift managers. We mapped the NEBOSH syllabus directly against the client’s internal carbon reporting frameworks, incident logs and environmental permits.

This allowed us to understand exactly what "environmental safety” looked like at 2AM on a busy dispatch floor and design training that spoke directly to that reality.

A re-engineered NEBOSH Environmental Diploma

Rather than delivering the standard course in a single intensive block, we re-engineered our version of the NEBOSH Environmental Diploma to fit the operational calendar of a shift manager.

We spread the assessment assignments across nine months, aligning submission deadlines with the business review cycles.

Flexible, recorded and fully supported delivery

The core tuition was delivered via 10 monthly live-online sessions, each lasting half a day. Every session was:

  • Fully recorded and archived in a dedicated learner portal, allowing night shift managers and those with conflicting commitments to catch at their convenience.
  • Backed by a dedicated online tutor, who held weekly “drop-in” office hours visa video and chat, ensuring that no learner felt isolated between monthly sessions.

Bespoke Revision Workshops

Recognising that exam preparation is often the most stressful phase, RRC designed a dedicated revision workshop specifically for this cohort.

Delivered two weeks before the written examination, this was not a generic revision session. Instead, it used the client’s own environment near-miss reports from the previous year as worked examples - turning theoretical legal requirements into concrete, memorable case studies.

The workshop was fully recorded, enabling learners to revisit complex topics, such as containment burning or waste classification as many times as they needed.

The results: Measurable Success

The feedback for the live online sessions was overwhelmingly positive, and highlighted the excellent tutor engagement and the ease of using the platform. The also noted the course structure and how well it was tailored to virtual delivery, with breakout room activities to reduce screen fatigue

The revision workshops also provided excellent support for learners as they prepared for their assignments. 100% were submitted on time, and the students appreciated the staggered, business-aligned deadlines.

The Strategic Takeaway

For this global logistic leader, we delivered far more than a qualification. We embedded environmental competence into the DNA of their operational management. By spreading the academic load across the year, recording every pouchpoint, and aligning every syllabus requirement with a real-world business process, we turned a potentially disruptive training obligation into a seamless, value adding component of daily work.

Feedback is important in ensuring we know how our customers feel about our courses and service, so please do take a couple of minutes to get in touch and let us know what you think.
