The course comprises of 5 modules which should each take 3-4 hours to complete, and must be completed in order:
This module covers the fundamentals of understanding data within a safety context. This includes common metrics, identifying data sources and types of safety data. The module goes on to cover how to read safety reports and basic data literacy.
Module 2 covers how to navigate, sort, filter and manipulate safety data in spreadsheets. It also provides advice on how to address data silos and access data across departments, and well as how to handle missing values and inconsistent data.
Building on the data you’ve organised and interpreted in module 2, module 3 shows the different ways to visualise safety data in an impactful way. This includes charts and dashboards where you can represent data in real-time.
Once you’ve grasped the different visualisations available, you’ll learn how to build them yourself. From Building simple charts and dashboards to customising visuals to better communicate safety data with different audiences.
Taking what you’ve learned on modules 1-4, module 5 shows you how you can use data to identify and quantify workplace risks, predict the likelihood and severity of workplace hazards, use data to tell compelling stories to influence decision-making and overcome challenges to implementing data-driven approaches in your organisation.
