NEBOSH National General Certificate Content

The NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health is based on UK law. It is made up of three units which must be successfully completed within five years to achieve the NEBOSH National General Certificate qualification:

Unit GC3: Health and Safety Practical Application

Assessment:

Units NGC1 and GC2 of the NEBOSH National General Certificate are each assessed by a two-hour written examination. Unit GC3 is assessed by a two-hour practical assessment carried out in your workplace (or another suitable workplace).

Exams are held in March, June, September and December each year.

How long does the Certificate take to complete?

This will depend on how you choose to study. The Classroom course is 2 weeks (10 days) plus exam. For Online study on average, learners complete this course in around 6 months.

What does Gold Learning Partner mean?

How can iI Top Up My NEBOSH General Certificate?

Exemptions for the NEBOSH National General Certificate

To achieve the NEBOSH National General Certificate you must complete all three units (NGC1, GC2 & GC3) within five years.

If you have been awarded the NEBOSH National Construction Certificate or NEBOSH National Fire Certificate in the last five years you will be exempt from Unit NGC1 and can simply 'top up' by completing Unit GC2 and the practical assessment (Unit GC3). 

Topping-up

Can I pay the course fees in instalments?

Course fees can be paid in up to a maximum of four monthly instalments. For UK customers instalments can be paid over 10 months. Click here for more information.

What is the difference between online, elearning and distance learning?

Online & elearning are just different words for the same thing. Distance Learning, means learning at a distance but is commonly used to describe the more traditional paper based study, RRC do provide the complete study text which you can download and study off line thus giving you the option of how you study the course

What is the difference between the National and International General Certificate?

The National Certificate is based on UK legislation and is recognised worldwide. The International Certificate is based on International Standards and Best Practice and is recognised by employers outside of the UK.

Is the Certificate I receive the same if I study Online as when I study in the classroom?

Yes, the Certificate is the exact same. You cannot tell the method of study from the Certificate.

Do you offer evening/weekend courses?

We do not offer evening or weekend classroom courses, however this course can be studied Online at any time.

What can I study once I have completed the Certificate?

If you are looking to study a higher level Health and Safety qualification, the NEBOSH Diploma will be the most suitable course to study.

Do I have to study the Award course first?

No. The Certificate can be studied by Learners with no prior health and safety experience.

Do I have to study the Certificate before I can study the Diploma?

It is strongly recommended that all students complete the NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent qualification) before studying the NEBOSH Diploma, as the Diploma builds upon the knowledge gained at Certificate level, however this is not essential in all cases. What educational level is the NEBOSH General Certificate?

The General Certificate is a level 3 qualification (EGF) which is the equivalent to A-levels in the UK.

What happens if I fail the exams?

If you do not pass your exams, you can book a re-sit with our exams team. 

How long are the exams?

Units NGC1 and GC2 are each assessed by a two hour exam.  GC3 is assessed by a two hour work based practical assessment. 

Can the exams be completed online?

No exams cannot be completed Online. Exams need to be completed at one of our assessment centres which will be arranged by our exams team.

Can I buy past exam papers?

Past papers are not available for any NEBOSH courses; however you can access an example question paper with examiners feedback on expected answers on the Nebosh website.
