Are human errors avoidable
Many accidents are attributed to human errors at work. It's often said that humans are the weakest link in any work process: they are prone to accidents. In fact, when we do make mistakes - especially when there's no obvious defence - we can often be heard to say "I'm human, not a machine!". David Towlson of RRC Training discusses whether there's any factual basis to this type of statement and whether we can improve human performance to reduce the likelihood of making errors.

IOSH and NEBOSH to hit Ghana
RRC is partnering with Work Health and Safety Organisation (WHSO) Ghana to deliver IOSH and NEBOSH courses in the country.
WHSO already offers short environmental, health and safety (EHS) courses and consultancy services there. Recent discovery of new oil reserves and the presence of oil companies, plus disasters including the collapse of a shopping centre, have helped to increase EHS awareness in Ghana.WHSO realised the potential and value of UK accredited qualifications and started working with RRC last May, providing the latter’s e-learning courses in Ghana.
Interest has since grown, so from May 2013 RRC and WHSO will offer NEBOSH, IOSH, CIEH and IEMA classroom courses at WHSO’s training centre in Accra.

March 2013

Little things mean a lot
To those from a more traditional ‘hard hat’ safety background process safety management can seem like an élitist, and fairly woolly concept. While most will know that it’s something to do with stopping ‘dangerous installations’ from going spectacularly wrong there is still the feeling that you have to be a member of the Freemasons for the full revelation. Fret not, say David Towlson and Hasan Alardi, who provide the ‘skinny’ rather than the ‘full fat’ on PSM.

It’s the taking part that counts
Health and safety is a serious subject but it doesn’t have to be dull and boring. Simple teaching practices that use active learning can make a big difference to staff engagement, argues David Towlson.

Visit the Stand Online!
After last year’s success, RRC will once again be running a Virtual Expo for those who cannot attend the show in person. There will be a live webcam on the stand providing updates over the three days, plus the chance to access some of the show offers online. Gary Fallaize commented: “We are looking forward to another exciting show and this year, we’ll be on hand to offer advice for individuals looking to further their career in the HSEQ industry, as well as providing guidance for those looking to develop an effective training programme for their staff. RRC Case Study - NEBOSH Oil and Gas
Nasir Iqbal is one of the many RRC students who have achieved success in the NEBOSH International Technical Certificate in Oil and Gas Operational Safety. Nasir was a recent graduate; he completed a BSc in Electrical Engineering shortly before registering for the NEBOSH Oil and Gas course with RRC in London. He left university to pursue a career in the oil and gas industry and, with a keen interest in health and safety, the NEBOSH Oil and Gas course seemed like the perfect next step.
"...the RRC team know what customer service is all about!"
