The NEBOSH National Diploma in Environmental Management has been designed for individuals with responsibilities for the management of environmental risk or who are aiming to develop and implement effective environmental management systems within their organisations. It is ideal for those looking for environmental health officer training for themselves or their staff.

The NEBOSH Environmental Diploma provides a detailed understanding of environmental risk management, including control strategies and civil liability under UK law. The course provides an essential environmental qualification for:

  • Safety professionals who are taking on environmental responsibilities.
  • Those looking to move into safety, health and environmental consultancy. 

You can study the NEBOSH Environmental Diploma by attending a classroom course at one of our high-quality training venues, or by distance/ e-learning with unlimited help and support from our expert NEBOSH trainers - a great option for those who need to fit studying around other commitments.

The NEBOSH Environmental Diploma allows you to use the letters "EnvDipNEBOSH" after your name. Holders are also entitled to Specialist membership (SIIRSM) of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM). It also fulfils the qualification requirements for non-chartered Membership of the CIWEM (MCIWEM), with the opportunity to progress onto chartered membership.

Entry Requirement

Some prior knowledge of the English legal system is recommended.


Unit ED1 of the NEBOSH Environmental Diploma is assessed by a three-hour written exam. Unit ED2 is assessed by a workplace-based practical assessment.

Exams take place in June and December. We have exam centres in over 80 countries worldwide and we make all the arrangements for you.

All of our courses contain plenty of exam practice to ensure you are fully prepared for the exam. Many of our trainers are also NEBOSH examiners, so they're well placed to provide advice and guidance throughout your course.
