IOSH Working Safely is designed to improve the safety culture within an organisation, by providing learners with an understanding of how their actions in the workplace contribute to safety and health and their individual safety responsibilities.

It is suitable for employees at all levels and those seeking to enter the workplace. It also counts towards the CSCS Labourers “Green” Card, see below for more information.

Studying Your IOSH Course with RRC

Learning outcomes

The learner will be able to:

  1. Identify why it is important to work safely
  2. Identify everyone’s responsibilities in relation to safety, health and wellbeing in the workplace
  3. Define key terms in safety and health
  4. Identify workplace hazards and risks, their impact and how to control them
  5. Identify ways safety, health and wellbeing are managed and improved within the workplace

Course Content

The courses have 4 units:

  1.  : Introducing working safely
  2. : Defining hazard and risk
  3. : Identifying common hazards
  4. : Improving safety performance

The IOSH Working Safely course is assessed by a short multiple choice exam and hazard spotting exercise at the end of the course.

If you are studying by e-Learning, your assessment is on-line.

Successful delegates are awarded an IOSH certificate.

IOSH Working Safely is recognised by CSCS as an equivalent to a Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment.
This means that delegates who successfully complete IOSH Working Safely can apply for a CSCS green Labourer card once they have also passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Operatives Test.

CITB Health, Safety and Environment Operatives Test

Once you have your IOSH Working Safely Certificate you are required to pass the CITB Operatives Health, Safety and Environment test, which you can complete at a local CITB test centre.  There is a Fee for taking this test see here for current fee.

Applying for your CSCS Labourer Card

You will need  to send a scan your IOSH Working Safety Certificate to CSCS at

Then ring CSCS on 0344 994 4777 and pay the fee for the card.
