CITB - Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS)

is recognised by the United Kingdom Contractors Group (UKCG) as meeting the required standard for all managers working on UKCG sites. The SMSTS course is designed for those with management responsibilities within the construction industry who need to be confident that they understand the key health and safety issues that are relevant to their role. CITB Site Safety Plus Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS)

The course objectives are that candidates will be able to:

  • Appreciate accident causes, costs and reasons for prevention;
  • Understand the legal system, relevant legislation, Approved Codes of Practice, Guidance Notes Codes of Practice and Case Law;
  • Conduct risk assessments;
  • Monitor health and safety performance;
  • Understand best practice in the management of sub-contractors;
  • Disseminate information to operatives and subcontractors.

Assessment consists of a short multiple-choice exam; three exercises and a case study; and a tutor review. The tutor review may include short-answer tests, oral questions and answers, simulated practical exercises, role play and problem-solving activities.
